Omar Alkilani, originally named Omer with an "e," adopted "Omar" with an "a" as his artistic name for ease of remembrance and recognition. He is a distinguished Syrian guitarist and music producer whose inspiring journey from Aleppo to Istanbul epitomizes resilience, talent, and the transformative power of music. Born and raised in a culturally rich environment, Omar discovered his passion for music at a young age, with the guitar becoming a central part of his life. His early years in Syria were marked by dedication to mastering his craft and performing locally. However, the outbreak of conflict in 2011 forced him to flee his homeland in search of safety and a better future.

In 2015, at the age of 15, Omar arrived in Istanbul, Turkey, with his guitar and twenty dollars. Despite the immense challenges of being a refugee in a foreign country, he remained steadfast in pursuing his musical dreams. Omar began his new life as a street musician on Istanbul's bustling Istiklal Avenue, captivating passersby with his soulful performances. His talent quickly garnered attention, leading to opportunities to perform in cafes, bars, and special events across the city.
Omar's journey and dedication to music have been documented in several films and media outlets. Notably, the short film "Solo," directed by Mohamed Jad, chronicles his journey from Syria to Turkey, highlighting his perseverance amidst adversity. The film received third place from Al Jazeera Documentary, further cementing his recognition in the artistic community. His story was also featured in the first episode of "I Am Istanbullu," a documentary series produced by GAÄ°N, which explores the lives of migrant musicians in Istanbul.

In 2019, Omar founded the Refugee Guitar Orchestra, bringing together refugee musicians from diverse backgrounds to create a unique fusion of traditional and modern music.
